STATUS: Regular Full-Time

HOURS OF WORK: 40 hours per week*
SALARY: $43.24 per hour + comprehensive benefits package

We are seeking a skilled Greenhouse horticulturist with a passion for engaging community through the sharing of knowledge. In this role, you will perform a variety of greenhouse and nursery tasks involved in the production of annuals, perennials, shrubs and related greenhouse and nursery stock that make up the outstanding garden displays in our parks. As well as solid technical skills of plant production, the ideal candidate will also be inspired by the ability to stoke interest and appreciation for horticulture and the environment in members of the community, through assisting with and delivering horticulture programs.

If you have the following characteristics and qualifications, we want to hear from you:
• Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by courses related to the work in Greenhouse Operations or Horticulture, plus sound experience related to the work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
• Ability to effectively perform skilled greenhouse and nursery, a variety of skilled greenhouse tasks such as propagating, transplanting, cultivating, pest and disease control and fertilizing of the annual, perennial and hanging basket crops and of stock, tropical and standard plants.
• Ability to maintain manual and computerized greenhouse and nursery records.
• Ability to monitor building and climate control systems to ensure proper growing environment.
• Ability to relieve a supervisor/superior regularly in the operation of nursery and greenhouse facilities.
• Ability to provide direction and guidance to staff performing routine greenhouse and nursery duties as required.
• Ability to assist in the development and delivery of the City’s Horticulture Education Programs and conduct tours for the public.
• Ability to answer a variety of questions and supply information to the public regarding greenhouse and nursery duties; and to employ contemporary service excellence principles at work.
• Ability to work under minimal supervision.
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with crew members and other City departments.
• Ability to demonstrate and provide exceptional customer service skills.
• Ability to perform manual/physical labor and to work in a variety of work environments.
• Available to work non-standard working hours including, but not limited to evenings and or weekends
• Valid Pesticide Applicator License.
• Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia – Class 5

*The successful candidate may be required to work some non-standard work hours as part of their weekly work schedule.
