Job Description

Responsibilities
• Install, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC systems and equipment
• Measure and lay out reference points for the installation of HVAC and refrigeration equipment
• Diagnose mechanical and electrical malfunctions in HVAC and refrigeration systems and recommend appropriate, cost-effective repairs
• Start up, test, and calibrate systems for proper operation and leak detection using appropriate testing devices
• Assemble and install system components, including motors, compressors, condensers, evaporators, valves, gauges, and controls, using hand and power tools
• Measure, cut, and connect piping and ductwork, applying appropriate fastening, soldering, or brazing techniques
• Recharge refrigerant systems and calibrate controls and regulators, in compliance with applicable environmental and safety regulations
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and safety inspections on client equipment
• Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, equipment manuals, and manufacturer specifications
• Maintain accurate service records, and maintenance documentation for each job
• Communicate clearly and professionally with clients regarding diagnosis, recommended repairs, and system operation
• Prepare work estimates and quotations for clients when required
• Follow all applicable safety standards, building codes, and TSSA/refrigerant handling regulations
Qualifications
• Completion of secondary school and training courses or a vocational program is usually required.
• HVAC/R certification or relevant trade qualification is required
• Previous HVAC service and installation experience is preferred
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple service calls
• Good communication and customer-service skills
• Ability to lift equipment and work in various environments, including attics, crawlspaces, rooftops, and mechanical rooms
