About the Position
Lin’s Chinese Restaurant is looking for an experienced Chef to join our kitchen team. The successful candidate will prepare a variety of Chinese dishes, help guide the kitchen team during daily service, and maintain the quality and consistency of the restaurant’s food for both dine-in and takeout customers.
Evening, weekend, and holiday shifts may be required based on the restaurant’s operating schedule.
Job Duties
1.Prepare and cook a variety of Chinese dishes, including combo meals, fried rice, chow mein, soups, seafood, chef’s specials, and other menu items.
2.Organize daily food preparation before each shift by checking ingredients, preparing sauces and soup bases, marinating meats, cooking rice, and setting up workstations for service.
3.Assign food preparation duties to cooks and kitchen helpers, answer questions during service, and make sure recipes, cooking methods, portion sizes, and presentation standards are followed.
4.Help keep the kitchen running smoothly during busy lunch and dinner service by coordinating food preparation and supporting the team with dine-in and takeout orders.
5.Check finished dishes before they are served or packaged and make adjustments when needed to maintain the restaurant’s quality standards.
6.Assist with preparing daily specials and make minor recipe adjustments when needed based on seasonal ingredients, customer feedback, and daily kitchen operations.
7.Monitor the daily use of ingredients, sauces, seasonings, and kitchen supplies, and advise restaurant management when additional supplies are needed.
8.Train new kitchen staff on the restaurant’s recipes, Chinese cooking techniques, food preparation procedures, food safety practices, and the proper use of kitchen equipment.
9.Prepare sauces, soup bases, and marinades used in the restaurant’s regular menu according to established recipes.
10.Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen by following food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety standards.
Qualifications
1.Completion of secondary school is required.
2.Minimum one (1) year of experience preparing and cooking food in a commercial kitchen is required.
3.Experience working in a busy commercial kitchen or food production environment is considered an asset.
4.Experience preparing Chinese food and using wok cooking techniques is considered an asset.
5.Cantonese language skills are considered an asset.
6.Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
7.Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
8.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
