POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director, Data Strategy and Partnerships, the Data Governance Specialist will enable the responsible use of data and artificial intelligence (AI) models for public benefit and research impact. This role will develop and implement comprehensive data governance programs, working collaboratively across the organization to ensure systematic and sustainable stewardship of data assets within Vector’s ownership and/or its computing environments.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop and implement comprehensive data governance programs that align with Vector’s Data strategy for both research and enterprise data holdings;
Support the implementation and evolution of Vector’s organizational Data Strategy through standardized governance practices and policies;
Lead initiatives to establish governance standards for data collection, de-identification, storage, transformation, and integration;
Ensure quality and integrity of data assets within Vector’s ownership and/or its computing environments through robust quality assurance, privacy standards, and data documentation;
Create and maintain metadata standards and data dictionaries to optimize data discoverability and usability for AI research;
Create and maintain documentation for internal and external stakeholders throughout the data lifecycle;
Collaborate with Vector researchers and technical staff to validate data suitability and readiness for AI/ML research;
Support the development and maintenance of partnerships with data stakeholders to enable data-driven research aligned with Vector’s governance framework;
Participate in external working groups and committees to advance Vector’s data governance initiatives;
Provide advisory support to the Data Operations portfolio to enable effective data collaborations and implementation of data agreements;
Develop and maintain a Cybersecurity Risk Management Plan in consultation and collaboration with the Data & Technology team, and support compliance functions such as credentialing standards, and audit/monitoring;
Pursue governance-related research that aligns with Vector’s Data Strategy; and,
Other related duties as assigned from time to time.

KEY SUCCESS MEASURES

Vector establishes itself as a trustworthy steward of data and AI model evaluation, and overall thought leader in advancing data-driven AI/ML research;
Vector achieves its goals for its data stakeholder and industry sponsor relationships; and,
Internal and external stakeholder feedback is such that Vector’s Data & Technology team provides high-quality service and support through effective working relationships.
PROFILE OF THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

A bachelor’s degree in business, informatics, technical, or related field; a graduate degree in these fields would be considered an asset;
A minimum of five (5) years of experience in overseeing the development and implementation of data governance programs;
CIPP certification is considered an asset;
Experience analyzing and conducting quality assurance of sensitive or regulated data, including generating data summary and data quality reports;
Experience in database management and running queries to gather data;
Experience in assessing AI model evaluation from a data governance, privacy, policy, and audit standpoint;
Adept at building and effectively managing multi-disciplinary project teams, prioritizing conflicting needs, managing limited resources, handling matters expeditiously, and following through on tasks to successful completion;
Possesses exceptional verbal and written English communication skills;
Effective in presenting to a diverse set of stakeholders from the business and technology ecosystem; and,
Brings a positive attitude and energy, integrity, a sense of humor, and outlook to a corporate culture, and is motivated by continuous learning and the desire to make a difference and a real contribution to AI.
