Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and dependable Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic [Off-road] to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, servicing, and maintaining off-road heavy equipment and agricultural machinery to support efficient farming operations. This position requires strong technical expertise, troubleshooting abilities, and experience working with diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and modern electronic diagnostic tools.
Responsibilities
• As a Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic [Off-road], your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
o Inspect, diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair off-road heavy equipment (e.g., loaders, excavators, tractors, skid steers)
o Use computerized diagnostic tools and software to identify mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and engine issues
o Perform engine, transmission, drivetrain, brake, steering, and suspension repairs – Repair and rebuild hydraulic systems, air systems, and diesel fuel systems
o Replace or repair worn, damaged, or defective parts and components – Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM) on heavy equipment
o Conduct oil changes, lubrication, filter replacements, and fluid checks – Inspect equipment for safety, wear, leaks, and operational issues
o Ensure all equipment is maintained according to manufacturer specifications – Service agricultural equipment, including tractors, implements, and farm machinery
o Ensure equipment is ready for resale by completing safety inspections and repairs (CVIP if applicable)
o Diagnose and repair electrical systems, including wiring, sensors, and battery systems – Expert use of scan tools, pressure gauges, and digital multimeters.
o Proficient in heavy hand/air tools.
o Strong ability to read electrical wiring diagrams and hydraulic schematics
o Troubleshoot CAN bus systems and modern electronic controls (where applicable) – Maintain accurate service records, repair logs, and inspection reports
o Record parts used and maintenance performed
o Identify and request required parts and track repair timelines
o Keep shop tools, equipment, and workspace clean and organized
o The ability to mentor or train apprentices and junior mechanics is preferred
Experience
• Proven experience as a Heavy-Duty Equipment Mechanic or Heavy Equipment Technician
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and heavy equipment repair
• Experience servicing agricultural equipment and off-road heavy machinery
• Proficiency in using computerized diagnostic equipment and troubleshooting tools
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and hydraulic schematics
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
• Ability to safely operate heavy equipment and perform physically demanding tasks
– Registered Apprentice or Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician certification required
– Red Seal endorsement preferred
