Position Overview:

We are seeking a motivated Truck and Transport Mechanic Apprentice to join our team in Howden, Manitoba. This is a permanent, full-time, on-site position supporting the inspection, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of commercial trucks, trailers, and related transport equipment.
The successful candidate will work as part of a hands-on repair team, assisting with mechanical inspections, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, component repairs, safety checks, and service documentation. This role is well suited to someone who is registered with Apprenticeship Manitoba, or who is otherwise eligible to continue progressing through the Truck and Transport Mechanic apprenticeship program, and is committed to developing their skills in a fast-paced commercial repair environment.

Job Duties:

– Adjust, repair, or replace parts and components of commercial transport truck systems.
– Inspect and test mechanical units to locate faults and malfunctions.
– Inspect motors in operation and test automotive systems and components using diagnostic equipment and other testing tools.
– Review work orders and discuss work with the supervisor.
– Confirm findings with the supervisor to determine whether units or components should be repaired or replaced.
– Adjust, repair, or replace parts and components of truck-trailer systems.
– Repair or replace mechanical units or components using hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and other specialized repair equipment.
– Test and adjust repaired systems to manufacturer specifications.
– Test and adjust units to specifications for proper performance.
– Perform scheduled maintenance service and preventative maintenance on commercial trucks, trailers, and fleet vehicles.
– Road test motor vehicles, where authorized, to assist with diagnosing issues and confirming repairs.
– Estimate parts and labour costs required to perform vehicle maintenance and repairs, where required.
– Complete service reports and records documenting problems, repairs performed, parts used, and work completed.
– Advise customers on work performed, general vehicle condition, and future repair requirements, where required.
– Provide customer service in a professional and courteous manner.
– Assist with repairs to commercial transport truck systems, including chassis, frame, cab, body, engine, drive train, air brakes, steering, fuel, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic systems.
– Assist with repairs to truck & trailer systems, including structural, brake, suspension, and electrical systems.
– Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment and follow workplace safety procedures.
– Continue developing trade skills and completing on-the-job training as part of the Truck and Transport Mechanic apprenticeship pathway.

Education, Certification and Experience Requirements:

– High school diploma or equivalent
– Registered as a Truck and Transport Mechanic Apprentice, or eligible to register with Apprenticeship Manitoba and continue progressing through the apprenticeship program
– Apprenticeship training or related trades training is considered an asset
– 2 years to less than 3 years of related work experience
– Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate
