Job Description

North River Outfitting is a small, family-run outfitting business operated by Ron Nemetchek and Maria Origoni.
Our guide territory is approximately 300km north of Smithers, BC, near the Yukon border (Cassier Mountains). This location is fly-in, and hunts are conducted with backpacks.
We are looking for a Hunting Guide who can efficiently assist in the daily operations of our camp. We have high standards for professionalism, obeying the law, hunting ethics and safety. Applicants must be loyal, honest, and professional.

Being a guide requires the ability to handle stressful situations with clients in very remote wilderness settings. Applicants must be comfortable with riding in small bush planes, float planes, using small mountain tents and spike camps. You will need to be safety conscious, self-motivated, flexible, hard-working, and dedicated to the clients.

Our guides must be in great physical condition and have extensive backcountry skills. Duties include, but are not limited to, guiding hunts, preparing trophies, general camp labour, and preparing meals for clients. Applicants must be experienced hunters with tracking skills and experience in wilderness settings. An ability to judge animals and understand animal behavior is required. Applicants must have experience with trophy care (skinning and caping), as well as general mechanical abilities (chainsaws, boat motors) and experience with general maintenance of camp equipment.

All applicants must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and a demonstrated capacity for rational independent thought under high stress situations.

North River is seeking a Hunting Guide to assist with the day-to-day operations of their camp for the 2024 hunting season.

Main Duties include:
• Plan itinerary for trip or expedition and arrange transportation or transport individuals or group to site.
• Assemble and inspect necessary equipment and supplies, such as camping gear, horses, horse tack and food.
• Lead or escort individuals or groups and advise on safety and emergency measures, techniques and the use of equipment
• Provide instruction for activities such as horseback riding, horse packing, and mountain climbing
• Advise on specific laws and regulations for activities such as hunting
• Follow environmental guidelines and prevent violations
• Provide first aid in emergency situations
• Preparing meals for group and setting up camp.
• Guiding hunting clients, retrieving and preparing hides and meat for transport and use.
• Creating promotional material for clients such as social media posts and videos for prospective clients.
Employment Requirements:
• Completion of high (secondary) school
• 1-2 years’ experience required
• CPR certificate preferred, but not required
• Qualified and passed the BC Assistant Guide License (or ability to pass upon hiring).
