Great Bear Carbon Credit Corporation

First Nations led the establishment of the Great Bear Rainforest Agreements with the government of British Columbia. The GBCC LP and GBCCC sit under the Great Bear Business Corporation (GBBC) which is a holding company wholly owned by a unique alliance of 7 First Nations on British Columbia’s North and Central Coast and Haida Gwaii. The principal goal of this group is to restore land and marine ecosystems through an ecological, social, and economical sustainable resource management approach in the Central and North Coast and Haida Gwaii.

The GBCCC LP markets and sells carbon credits owned by the Nations. The Nations invest the carbon sales profit into stewardship and ecosystem-based management activities in their traditional territories.

WHO YOU ARE
YOU are committed to bringing awareness and build partnerships for the sales of carbon credits and the benefits they can provide to the First Nation members.

YOU will lead and ensure compliance with sales and marketing initiatives of the GBCC LP and GBCCC, in line with the Great Bear Rainforest Agreements.

YOU will plan, direct, and coordinate day-to-day sales and marketing activities taking a proactive approach in seeking additional opportunities for carbon credit sales by developing communications tools and strategies, online presence, overseeing the website and attending carbon sector events in the marketplace.

YOU are responsible to professionally manage operational activities to coordinate activities to run the operations smoothly and effectively, learning and growing, making improvements as needed.

YOU will lead with passion, motivation, and in the spirit of togetherness to understand the importance of building trusting relationships and partnerships that support the strategy and initiatives of the GBCC LP and GBCCC. All with the support of teammates and colleagues.

Start Date: ASAP
Term: 12 months with a possibility of extension

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities
The Sales & Operations Manager position is responsible for the following key functions and performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with direction of the General Manager.

Sales and Marketing – Represent the Great Bear Carbon Credit Corporation (GBCCC) and GBCC LP as manager of carbon credit sales and marketing.
• With specific regard to GBCC LP, Carbon Credit Corp business, responsible for negotiating offset purchase agreements with clients for voluntary and compliance sales.
• Respond to GBCC LP sales inquiries/requests via email, phone, or in-person.
• Manage and track progress on GBBC operational activities such as Annual General Meeting (AGM) and processing all payables, reporting to the General Manager as approvals are required.
• Review project reports, identify progress and challenges and submit to GM for discussion, preparing background information where necessary.
• Manage GBCCC and GBBC meetings including liaising with GBIS for continued support between entities, assisting with integration of any new organizations to GBBC, as needed.
• Maintain and manage inventory of carbon credits.
• Manage and market carbon credits sales on behalf of Kitselas Nation.
• Participate in the development of a strategic marketing and communications plan.
• Assisting in developing the Annual Report and Workplan for presentation to the Board for approval, together with the General Manager.

Operational activities
• Providing ongoing guidance to the Operations Coordinator in carrying out administrative duties for the business operations including resolving problems, preparing schedules, setting deadlines to ensure timely completion of projects/work.

Communications
• Develop and maintain a collaborative relationship with the provincial government, the International Carbon Reduction Offset Association (ICROA), the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA), Ostrom Climate Solutions (Technical Engineering Support Group), Nanwakolas Council Society to ensure operational efficiency of carbon credit process and to manage the impact of joint sales between member groups.
• Responsible for the negotiations regarding contracts and agreements that support GBCC LP.
• Represent the carbon projects in consultation sessions hosted by the BC government, related to policies, regulations, and acts as they apply to BC’s Carbon Program, as requested.
• Review and where necessary provide marketing support and edits to communications requests from sales partners and/or applicable carbon credit buyers’ carbon offset purchases.
• Keep informed of all media and communications related to the carbon projects and where necessary, escalate issues to the General Manager.
• Collaborate and liaise with Nanwakolas Council Society on community carbon initiatives and Forum.
• Work with the General Manager to engage consultant services as necessary; and
• Establish and maintain positive relationships with internal parties to ensure smooth operations and project updates, etc.

Manage Trademarks
• Manage Great Bear and Great Bear Rainforest trademarks by monitoring the use and upholding two trademarks for Great Bear and Great Bear Rainforest License and maintaining compliance information.
• Create agreements with trademark users, on an as needed basis, at minimum on an annual basis.

GBIS Forum
• Assist with the development of agendas with the support of the Operations Coordinator and GBIS forum representatives.
• Present impacts of decisions on Forums related to sales and inventory management.
• Manage and monitor action items arising from Forums, as needed.
• Develop education and materials to assist GBCCC Board members of current state of forum and where applicable potential future opportunities for regional projects.

Financial Administration
• Create receivable invoices and provide coding to payable invoices related to the GBBC, GBCCC, GBCC LP and GBIS as necessary on behalf of the GBIS Forum.
• Work with the auditor to assist with preparation of financial reports and statements, reviewing banking agreements, scheduling the audit, hosting audit meetings.
• Support Finance/GM with preparation of Board meeting materials including presentation of financial statements, quarterly sales reports, and inventory.
• Collaborate with verification auditors for verification of offset tonnes.
• Maintain GBBC, GBCCC & GBCC LP annual budgets; and
• Support Finance with managing/maintaining carbon distribution (funds) model including incorporating inventory deliveries, shares between projects, and related required adjustments to the model on each change.
• Other duties as assigned/required.

Qualifications Required
• Completion of Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or equivalent work experience.
• Excellence in use of all Microsoft Office applications – Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
• Three to five years’ experience in sales/marketing, project management and/or financial management.
• Three to five years’ experience working in a for-profit organization.
• Previous experience leading and/or supervising a team.
• Criminal records check.
• Must have valid driver license (BC Class 5) and satisfactory driving record.

Preferred
• Experience and comfort working with various software programs (financial management data bases and projects management is preferred).
• Project/financial management certification or equivalent work experience.
• Previous experience working in a cross-cultural environment, preferably in Indigenous organizations and communities.

This is a full-time (35 hours per week), salaried position with a hybrid work environment including time in our Vancouver office as well as ability to work from home (WFH). Some travel to attend meetings, conferences or training is required.
