Job Posting: Indigenous Early Learning Teacher

Position Overview
We are seeking a 1.0 FTE District Early Literacy Teacher With an Indigenous Cultural Safety Focus

SD 71 is located on the east coast of Vancouver Island in the traditional territory of the K’ómoks First Nation. The Comox Valley is a desirable place to live with great ocean beaches, golf, skiing, hiking, swimming and boating. In addition, the community has strong and vibrant arts and cultural programs.

Responsibilities:
Collaborate with district and school teams to design and implement effective supplemental learning and early intervention models that honour diverse ways of knowing and being.
Coordinate district-wide strategies that ensure equitable and culturally relevant access to early literacy supports, guided by community and Indigenous perspectives.
Engage in meaningful collaboration and communication with district staff, regional networks, families, and Indigenous partners to promote shared ownership and culturally safe practices.
Lead and support early literacy training for primary educators, grounded in culturally responsive pedagogy and inclusive instructional and assessment practices.
Facilitate professional learning for educators, administrators, and support staff through workshops, co-teaching, demonstration lessons, and collaborative planning focused on Indigenous cultural safety and holistic learning.
Contribute to a district culture of learning, inclusion, and reconciliation through additional responsibilities as required.

Anticipated start date: November 17, 2025.

Skills, Attributes and Competencies
• Indigenous Ancestry required
• Valid BC Teaching Certificate
• Strong understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and educational strengths and challenges.
• Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous youth and communities
