We are seeking a skilled horticulturalist with vision and a passion for beautiful, inspiring landscapes to join our team of expert gardeners. You will have the opportunity to design, construct and maintain formal garden displays in parks and on other City properties in addition to performing routine maintenance of landscaped areas, lawn areas and associated shrubs and small trees. You will supervise the work of a small team of labourers horticultural attendants and gardeners who help to make the City attractive and inviting to all.

Completion of a diploma in horticulture, or the completion of a Horticulture apprenticeship, supplemented by considerable related experience.
Certificate of Qualification/Red Seal certification as a Landscape Horticulturalist.
Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, practices and equipment used in gardening and horticultural work.
Considerable knowledge of tree and plant diseases and of treatment methods.
Considerable knowledge of plant materials, horticultural landscaping and formal turf maintenance.
Ability to assign and supervise the work of one or more subordinates engaged in park’s maintenance, development, horticulture, gardening and arboricultural tasks. Ability to think creatively and design, plan and construct formal garden displays.
Ability to organize and execute seasonal work plans including participating in the ordering of related supplies and materials. Skill in the use and care of tools, equipment and materials used in gardening and horticultural work.
Considerable knowledge of the hazards and proper safety precautions applicable to the work.
Ability to work outdoors in all conditions, including inclement weather.
Ability to carry out oral and written instructions and work with minimal supervision.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external contacts and to communicate effectively with members of the public, and to employ service excellence principles at work.
Valid BC Driver’s License.
You must be able to pass and maintain a Police Information Check.
