Job Description
Join one of the most innovative branches of the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) in our mission to transform mental health care in our community.
We are seeking the involvement of leaders within our community to support and advance CMHA’s work in providing care within York and South Simcoe. We have a particular need for expertise in the following areas: governance, philanthropy, and innovation.
Who Are We?
The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), York and South Simcoe Branch is one of 30 CMHA branches serving the people of Ontario. Our branch’s team of 350 staff and 100 volunteers serve over 20,000 clients annually, with a budget of $42.7M. We are dedicated to our vision of “mentally healthy people in a healthy society,” delivering quality mental health and addiction services that promote recovery and health and end stigma. We value equity and reconciliation as critical elements in providing the best client service, volunteer, and work experience. We also foster diversity, equity, and inclusion grounded in anti-racism and anti-oppression practices, using a harm reduction and trauma-informed lens.
The start date will be in June 2026 after elections are held.
The Ideal Candidate
For our Board of Directors, we are seeking individuals who have:
Time to commit to regular Board & Committee meetings and review of materials in advance of meetings.
Diversity of thought and culture.
Passion and commitment to change in our community.
Desire to serve as an ambassador and a commitment to be a donor.
A connection the York Region or South Simcoe communities
Strategic thinking and an understanding of how good governance improves organizations.
Candidates with a strong foundation in Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, & Accessibility and/or lived experience with mental health (personally or as a family member or caregiver) will be given priority.
Requirements & Competencies:
Candidates must:
Have experience with not-for-profit good governance practices.
Have experience that will contribute to business acumen and planning.
Be willing to learn, disseminate, and apply new skills.
Be professional, reliable, and punctual.
Possess good listening and communication skills.
Respect diversity and differing opinions.
Be comfortable speaking in a group and interacting with others.
Comply with CMHA’s policies.
Provide a Vulnerable Sector Screening.
