Briner & Associates is a public accounting and advisory firm with offices in High Level, Alberta. We provide full-service financial support to businesses and organizations across northern Alberta, with a strong focus on Indigenous-owned enterprises, agricultural operations, and regional service providers. Our firm is structured to deliver responsive, high-quality services to clients who rely on us for ongoing accounting, tax compliance, and financial systems support.

We are currently seeking detail-oriented and organized Accounting Assistants to join our team in-person in High Level. This position plays an important support role in the preparation of financial documentation, transaction processing, and internal coordination of client files. The successful candidate will work closely with our accountants and technicians to ensure the accuracy and completeness of client records, support day-to-day operations, and help maintain strong relationships with businesses across the region.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
– Prepare and issue client-facing documents such as invoices, cheque requisitions, account statements, and supporting financial summaries using the firm’s accounting software and internal templates.
– Code, enter, and reconcile daily transactions related to accounts payable, accounts receivable, client trust activity, and internal disbursements. Verify supporting documentation and ensure data is posted accurately to client files and internal ledgers.
– Assist in compiling financial data for period-end reporting, including cost statements and comparative summaries based on prior periods, estimated expenses, and client engagement terms.
– Track, calculate, and update cost inputs related to client files, including billable time, overhead allocations, and third-party disbursements.
– Support the accounting team in preparing draft reports and summaries for CPA review, including working paper indexing, transaction batching, and basic reconciliation tasks.
– Respond to internal and external inquiries regarding billing, file status, and documentation requests. Liaise with clients and vendors to resolve administrative or payment-related issues.
– Perform general clerical and administrative duties such as scanning, photocopying, digital file management, and updating internal records in accordance with the firm’s document retention policy.

Wage/Salary: $28.00/hour
Benefits: Extended Health Benefits available after 90 days of employment

Please note that High Level, Alberta is a remote town in Northern Alberta, approximately 8 hours drive north of Edmonton. This is a fully in-person, non-remote work position that requires daily Monday – Friday attendance at company offices.

Skills Requirements
Education: Completion of secondary school is required. Post-secondary coursework in bookkeeping, accounting or business administration is considered an asset.
Work Experience: At least six (6) months of full-time experience in a role involving computerized transaction oversight, management of inventory systems, accounting support or clerical finance is required.
Skills/Licensing: Must have the ability to type at a minimum speed of 45 words per minute with a high degree of accuracy; Demonstrable proficiency in spreadsheet software (e.g., Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets) is required, including the ability to enter, sort, filter, and organize data in a structured format; Demonstrable familiarity with basic bookkeeping practices used in Canada, such as recording payables and receivables, preparing simple account summaries, and understanding the flow of financial transactions is required.
