Job Description

Job Duties
• Check formwork, granular base and steel reinforcement materials before concrete placement
• Direct placement of concrete into forms and onto surfaces according to grade specifications
• Fill hollows and remove high spots to smooth freshly poured concrete
• Operate power vibrators to compact concrete
• Level top surfaces of concrete according to grade and depth specifications using straightedges, screeds and floats
• Finish concrete surfaces using hand and power tools, including power trowels
• Operate construction equipment including jackhammers, concrete saws and other power tools as required
• Install anchor bolts, steel plates, door sills and other fixtures in freshly poured concrete
• Apply hardening and sealing compounds to cure concrete surfaces
• Waterproof, damp-proof and restore concrete surfaces
• Repair, resurface and replace worn or damaged sections of concrete floors, walls, roads, sidewalks and other concrete structures
• Perform concrete forming and preparation work
• Read and follow construction drawings, specifications and site instructions
• Maintain a safe and clean work environment
• Perform all duties related to concrete finishing and cement masonry
Requirements
• Completion of secondary school is usually required
• Completion of a two- to four-year apprenticeship program in concrete finishing or
• More than three years of work experience in the trade and some high school, college or industry courses in cement finishing
• Ability to operate power tools and construction equipment safely
• Ability to perform physically demanding work in various weather conditions
• Trade certification for Concrete Finishers is considered an asset
