Job Description

DEPARTMENT: Parks and Recreation
STATUS: Auxiliary
NO. OF POSITIONS: 8
UNION: CUPE, Local 387
HOURS OF WORK: 6-16 hours per week*
SALARY: $21.38 per hour + 12% in lieu of benefits

The City of New Westminster is looking for responsible, friendly and keen part-time seasonal concession workers to staff our outdoor concessions.
The main responsibility will be the preparation and serving of fast food and beverages.

If you have the following characteristics and qualifications, we want to hear from you:
• Ability to learn cash handling skills with the ability to receive payments and make change quickly and accurately.
• Ability to provide friendly and fast service.
• Ability to work without supervision, and to work well with others.
• Ability to make sound decisions and problem solve.
• Ability to safely clean equipment and keep work areas tidy and well stocked.
• Previous related experience would be an asset.
• Ability to learn processes and take direction.
• Ability to tolerate extreme heat and humidity necessary to work in kitchens, climate changes and work outdoors.
• Ability to stand and walk for the entire length of the shift as work duties demand.
• Ability to bend, reach and lift items up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to perform other duties as assigned.
• Have a valid Food Safe Certificate, Level 1.
• The successful applicant must be able to pass and maintain a clear Police Information Check.

*You must be available to work a variety of shifts including days, evenings, weekends and statutory holidays from May 1 to September 2 or June 29 until September 2 (and must be available on the weekends for training in April if you start on May 1, or evening and weekends in June if you start on June 29). Concession workers could be scheduled to work 3 to 5 shifts per week, each shift is between 2 to 6 hours. Please note that shifts are subject to change due to weather, attendance and events. Shifts at an outdoor concession will be cancelled on days of poor weather conditions.
