Job Description

As a Cook at Benito Country Store’s Deli, you will:
• Prepare and cook complete meals or individual dishes using fresh ingredients.
• Plan, modify, and develop menu items in collaboration with management.
• Ensure quality, consistency, and presentation of all food served.
• Maintain inventory of food, supplies, and equipment; inform management of shortages.
• Oversee and manage kitchen operations including portion control and food cost management.
• Train and supervise kitchen helpers where required.
• Clean kitchen and work areas, ensuring compliance with food safety and hygiene standards.
• Balance and reconcile daily transactions by calculating total payments collected at the close of each shift, ensuring accuracy against recorded sales.
• Confirm customer eligibility by verifying age requirements prior to completing sales of restricted items such as lottery tickets, alcohol, or tobacco products.
• Follow health and safety protocols at all times.

Qualifications
• Completion of college diploma / degree of minimum two years
• Completion of a college program in cooking, culinary arts, or several years of commercial cooking experience will be considered as asset, but not mandatory.
• Knowledge of food safety regulations and kitchen sanitation practices.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to work under pressure.

Required languages: English

Education level: College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years.

Required skills: Cooking skills. Knowledge of food safety regulations and kitchen sanitation practices.
