Responsibilities and tasks:

Calculate the cost of truck repairs and new parts if needed
Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, using computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) equipment, or other navigation devices, to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions
Drive as part of a two-person team or convoy
Load and unload goods
Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials
Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment
Perform emergency roadside repairs
Perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspection and oversee all aspects of vehicle
Receive and relay information to central dispatch
Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption
Tarping and ensuring safety and security of cargo
Transport and handle dangerous goods

Credentials and Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses:

Driver’s License (Class 1 or A)

Experience and specialization: Documentation knowledge – Driver logbook, Inspection report (pre-trip, en-route, post-trip)

Type of trucking and equipment: Flatbed, Straight truck (4,600kg+ or 10,000lbs+ with 3+ axles), Tractor-trailer

Communication systems experience: Operate GPS (Global Positioning System) and other navigation equipment

Transportation/travel experience: Long-haul, Short-haul

Additional information: Transportation/travel information, Valid driver’s licence, Willing to travel cross-border, Willing to travel for extended periods, Willing to travel overnight, Work conditions and physical capabilities, Attention to detail, Handling heavy loads, Physically demanding, Sitting.

Weight handling: Up to 13.5 kg (30 lbs)
