Job Description
The Costigan Family, a private household in Sudbury, Ontario P3E 3P6, is looking for a reliable person to assist elderly parents in setting of their home. The father is 84 with dementia, and my mother is 83.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The caregiver will assist with personal care such as personal hygiene, dressing, if required and other aspects of personal hygiene; plan and assist in the preparation of meals; will assist in routine housekeeping and cleaning duties such as laundry, washing dishes, making beds; assist in grocery shopping; the candidate will attend at medical and other appointments and outings, as required; assist in regular exercise and going for walks; supervise that the medication is taken as prescribed and will engage in stimulating conversations and activities suitable for someone with dementia. Additionally, the applicant will provide companionship to the couple, accompany them on walks, and escort them to church and shopping.
In the case of any other ailment or illness, the candidate needs to be able to perform simple health-related duties, such as keeping records, measuring body temperature, assisting in the administration of medications and providing personal care, as instructed by a medical professional.
The caregiver needs to be punctual, exceptionally patient, organized, dependable, and flexible. They must also have effective interpersonal and communication skills in communicating with seniors, sound judgment, be a team player and be client-focused. Finally, the applicant must have a good command of the English language.
This is a smoke and scent-free work environment.
EXPERIENCE: at least 1 to less than 7 months experience is desirable
EDUCATION: No degree, certificate or diploma required
SECURITY AND SAFETY: Reference required
TRANSPORTATION/Travel Information: Public transportation is available; relocation is paid by the employer
CREDENTIALS: First aid certificate and CPR certificate
WEIGHT HANDLING: able to lift up to 9 kg (20 lbs)
SALARY: $20.00 per hour; 30 – 35 hours per week
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This is a permanent, full-time position. It is Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 14:00 p.m., with some Saturdays or Sundays.
Optional accommodation is available at no charge on a live-in basis. Note: This is NOT a condition of employment. Room and board provided.
