Job Description
Valbella Gourmet Foods, located in the mountain town of Canmore, AB, is currently seeking a permanent, full-time Meat Department Supervisor.
The Meat Department Supervisor will be responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities of the meat department staff, ensuring the highest standards of quality, service, and cleanliness. This role involves managing inventory, assisting customers, and ensuring the efficient operation of the department.
The main duties as a Meat Department Supervisor include, but not be limited to:
Hire and train new staff in the meat department
Establish work schedules for meat department staff
Prepare reports on meat sales volumes and merchandising
Organize and maintain inventory
Resolve issues that may arise, including customer requests, complaints, and supply shortages
Supervise and coordinate the activities and duties of staff within the meat department
Organize and prepare special customer orders and requests
Communicate with on-site butchers regarding stock levels and inventory needs
Sell meats to customers
Monitor and report on staff performance
Assist customers with product selection and provide information on meat preparation and cooking techniques
Rotate stock to ensure freshness and conduct regular inventory checks
Prepare special displays of meats, poultry and fish products
Maintain the visual standards and image of the meat department, ensuring appealing store displays, accurate signage, and a clean environment
Oversee the preparation and presentation of meat products
Stock the meat vending machine and keep a log of product dates, inventory, and change the available selection depending on the time of year

Education level: Secondary (High) school graduation certificate
Required skills: Work experience: At least one year of experience in a supervisory position, with the ability to train, oversee, and manage a team effectively. Strong decision-making skills in a fast-paced environment. Extensive knowledge of various types of meats, including different cuts and their uses. Ability to provide recommendations on meat selection, preparation methods, and cooking techniques. Familiarity with seasonal availability and sourcing of meats. Proven capability to maintain high standards of quality and safety. Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to address inquiries and resolve issues promptly.
Additional skills / Assets: Having knowledge of the Swiss culture, specifically their traditional meat products would be an asset.
