SALARY: $54.44 – $64.43 per hour (2024 rates) plus a comprehensive benefits package

We are looking for a Design and Construction Supervisor to lead the Design and Construction group’s fast-paced, innovative, and evolving work in the Engineering department. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Engineering Services, you will lead projects and teams in various civil infrastructure design and construction projects, as well as strategic asset management planning and geographic information system management projects. The successful candidate will supervise a subset of the design and construction team and assist the Senior Manager in ensuring that all projects and review processes are consistent with Council’s strategic priorities and the City’s overall objectives.

Specific duties for this role will include: supervision and mentorship of engineering staff; overseeing complex design and construction projects; developing long-term asset management plans; working closely with other senior staff to develop and manage processes and procedures such as the project management framework and GIS processes to enhance service delivery; liaising and coordinating with internal and external contacts on matters related to design and construction work; preparing reports and making presentations to community groups, City advisory committees and Council; and other related duties.

If you have the following characteristics and qualifications, we want to hear from you!
• Graduation from a university or an institute of technology with a bachelor’s degree or diploma in civil engineering or a related discipline, with considerable work experience in civil design & construction or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Membership in EGBC or ASTTBC.
• Project Management Professional certification is an asset.
• Advanced knowledge of the principles, practices, techniques, methods, and procedures applicable to municipal engineering, including transportation systems, utilities, design, and construction standards.
• Considerable knowledge of the policies, rules, regulations, bylaws and legislation governing the work.
• Knowledge of asset management practices, techniques and long-term asset planning.
• Knowledge of the practices and techniques of civil engineering and construction work.
• Experience participating in various meetings, such as project, committees, Council and other meetings, and presentations.
• Experience working with senior staff in creating, implementing, and improving processes and procedures.
• Ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of staff, and to apply excellent people management and leadership skills.
• Ability to consult, liaise and coordinate with other staff, external public and private agencies, consultants and citizen groups.
• Ability to be creative and exercise sound judgment in a fast paced environment while managing multiple tasks and resolving conflicts.
• Ability to express ideas effectively both orally and in a written manner.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, professionals and the public, and to clearly convey the principles and requirements of sound engineering development.
