Reporting to the Asset Management & Project Engineer, the Engineering Technologist – Asset Management contributes to the continuous advancement of the Corporate Asset Management Program by administering assigned asset management projects, coordinating and providing direction to a wide variety of internal and external contacts, working with consultants, preparing and maintaining a variety of records (asset inventory, GIS, CMMS, Condition etc.), reports, correspondence, and documents related to the work.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
• Administers assigned engineering projects related to Asset Management (AM), the Development Cost Charge (DCC) program, and Infrastructure Planning.
• Administers assigned projects or project components related to condition assessments, life cycle cost analysis, developing or updating asset management plans and metrics, and updating asset registries.
• Prepares Request for Proposals, evaluates and recommends selection of consultants, coordinates work with external agencies and consultants, and oversees the work of consultants.
• Collects and reviews invoices for accuracy and completeness before processing and entering the information in the financial system (JDE). Prepares and maintains accounts.
• Coordinates with multiple City Departments to assist in a variety of activities related to AM, Bylaw reviews, the City’s DCC Program, and other projects.
• Performs related work which requires determination of procedure and considerable knowledge of departmental functions and methods. Coordinates with various departments to support the advancement of our AM practices through process improvements.
• Conducts research, including contacting external and internal practitioners/experts.
• Ensures document management. Prepares and maintains a variety of departmental activity records, files, and documents, reports, correspondence, work orders, as well as submitting entries in Cityworks.
• Collects, maintains, and summarizes a range of data sets, records and/or reports to ensure full cycle data management to be utilized to support project research and analysis. Use GIS software to enter, update, extract, and interpret data.
• Prepares narrative and statistical reports, schedules, agendas, minutes, statements, and tabulations and arranges committee meetings. Assists with preparation, presentation, and documentation of presentations. Performs related work as required.
If you have the following characteristics and qualifications we want to hear from you:
• Completion of a university Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering or a related disciple, and related experience in a municipal engineering field, or an equivalent combination of education/training and experience. Registration or eligibility for registration as an A.Sc.T., EIT, or P.Eng.
• Knowledge of municipal asset management practices. Considerable knowledge of the practices and techniques of municipal engineering. Knowledge of project management in the municipal engineering field. Ability to prepare and interpret plans, specifications, technical reports, contract documents and related materials.
• Ability to coordinate studies and capital projects including consultant liaison, technical reviews, report writing and budget management.
• Ability to administer assigned municipal projects, collect, analyze and/or synthesize technical, statistical, costing and related data and information. Ability to use GIS and strong Excel skills to enter, maintain, extract, interpret and present data.
• Strong communication skills to effectively present ideas and concepts to all levels within the organization.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with people at all levels.
• Ability to take initiative and manage projects with limited supervision.
• Valid BC Driver’s License is an asset
