SALARY: $54.44 -$64.43 (2024 rates) plus benefits

The City of New Westminster is seeking a highly motivated and experienced project manager with a background as an architect or planner to join our Planning and Development team as a Project Coordinator-Housing Development. In this role, you will be responsible for effectively shepherding multiple affordable housing projects through the City’s permitting and approval processes. As our ideal candidate, you will use your tenacity, problem-solving skills, and leadership qualities to remove barriers that inhibit project success. In your career, you will have gained extensive experience in the review and permitting of mid to high density housing projects.

Duties
• Providing project management coordination between internal departments to effectively shepherd multiple affordable housing projects through the City’s permitting and approval processes.
• Leading cross-functional city teams to streamline the approval process by addressing conflicts, improving efficiency, and being focused on project delivery that best serves the community.
• Monitoring project progress and identifying and mitigating risks and issues that could negatively impact outcomes.
• Communicating project status, risks, and issues to internal and external project teams and Senior Management.
• Collaborating with departments and team members to ensure project objectives are aligned with overall organizational strategy including climate action, regulatory requirements, and strategic priorities.
• Developing and maintaining project documentation.
• Conducting post-project reviews to identify areas for improvement and best practices.

Requirements
• A degree in architecture, planning, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in architecture or planning with an emphasis on multi-family housing and affordable housing.
• Excellent project management skills, including project planning, coordinating, and risk management.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate complex information to a variety of audiences.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Working knowledge of municipal government permitting process with an understanding of relevant legislation, policies, and regulations impacting housing.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, Tempest an asset.
