MISSION
Guided by Catholic values and teachings, we serve and offer bilingual (English/French) service to children, youth and families within the Hamilton community to protect their safety and well-being, strengthen families and nurture lifelong relationships.
PURPOSE
The Anti Black Racism Lead will perform their duties with a high degree of personal and professional integrity, while building collaborative relationships and partnerships with all individuals based on mutual respect. This position will be held by an incumbent of African Descent.
The Anti Black Racism Lead as a subject matter expert will provide critical analysis of service delivery through an anti black racism lens and implement agreed upon strategies to decrease the over-representation of Black/African Canadian children/youth and families.
The Anti Black Racism Lead will monitor disproportionality as it relates to service outcomes.
The Anti Black Racism Lead is responsible for ensuring all duties are carried out in alignment with the mission, vision and values of the Society with a commitment to social justice.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
JOB DUTIES
This position reports to the Director of Service and Equity.
• Strong knowledge and application of One Vision One Voice (OVOV) Practice Framework developed by the Ontario Association of Children’s Aid Societies (OACAS) and the Child Welfare sector.
• In consultation with the Director, creates a work plan to implement One Vision One Voice, Race Equity Principles and Best Practice Framework.
• Assists in the development of an Anti-Black Racism statement, Anti-Black Racism training module in collaboration with the Director of Service and Equity.
• Develop, chair and support the OVOV, Employee Resource Group in the Agency.
• Works with Service Teams and Service Supervisors to provide case consultation to ensure cultural needs of children, youth and families are met and supports their cultural identity.
• Assists in the development of policies and procedures to address the disparity and disproportionality of service.
• Develops outreach strategies to engage equity deserving communities.
• Engages in the development of a local African Canadian Advisory Committee.
• Assists with the development of a work plan to support the recruitment of African Canadian Resource Parents.
• Develops an Affinity Group for African Canadian Children and Youth in collaboration with our local community.
• Completes all mandatory trainings required upon hire and participates in ongoing trainings offered by CCASH.
• Demonstrates leadership and a commitment to the principles of anti-oppressive practices and anti-racism based on justice, fairness, equity, respect of the beliefs and traditions of others.
• Complies with agency Health and Safety policies and the Ontario Health and Safety Act, and regulations.
• Committed to the Society’s mission, vision and values.
• This position has no direct reports
• Performs other duties as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
• Bachelor of Social Work/MSW/University degree from an accredited university or equivalent education and experience.
• Strong knowledge and understanding of the One Vision One Voice project.
• Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and prioritize as required.
• Excellent writing and editorial skills
• Excellent communication and facilitation skills
• Great organizational skills
• Great community engagement skills
• Understanding of anti-oppression, anti-racism/anti black racism and equity principles as it relates to child welfare practice.
• Passionate about social justice and strong skills in disrupting systemic inequities
• Ability to develop and facilitate training on anti racism/anti black racism
• Solid interpersonal and leadership skills
• Works collaboratively with Quality Assurance to view and assess identity based data
• In depth knowledge of the Hamilton community and experience working with diverse communities
• Ability to deal with highly sensitive and personal information in a confidential manner.
• Solid ability to analyze information, problem-solve and make good decisions
• Demonstrates a commitment to, and work ethic in leadership and role models behaviours that demonstrates the Mission, Vision and Values of the Catholic Children’s Aid Society.
• Bilingual French/English is an asset.
• Training experience is an asset

HEALTH AND SAFETY
Knowledgeable of, and conducting daily activities in a safe and secure manner complying with employee obligations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHMIS, Society Health, safety and security policies and procedures. Reports and makes right any unsafe condition, practice and/or condition.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment is primarily office, but may include regular contact with staff, volunteers, resource parents and community representatives. The position requires access to a personal vehicle for driving.
Qualified candidates must have the skills and knowledge needed to work with an increasingly diverse population as well as knowledge of inequities, how they are perpetuated, and the skills to address them, specific to the requirements of the job.

• Computer literate with demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft office and proprietary child welfare systems and programs.

• At the time of hire, documents required will include:
o Police clearance
o Provincial Child Protection Record Check
o Valid Ontario Driver’s license and acceptable drivers abstract.
