Indigenous Relationships and Reform Manager
(Remote, Term- Contract, 36 Months)

Reporting to the Director, Diversity and Inclusion this role will help to advance our journey of Inclusion and Reconciliation by fostering positive relationships and meaningful engagement between our youth-led organization and Indigenous communities and joining our Diversity and Inclusion Center of Excellence. This pivotal role involves understanding, respecting, and promoting the interests of First Nations, Metis, and Inuit groups to the organization, while helping the organization design goals that are culturally appropriate and relevant. The ideal candidate will be a passionate individual who can engage with diverse generations and perspectives, drive positive change, with a deep understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and protocols to facilitate mutually respectful communication and collaboration.
This role will be remote from your home office, and the candidate can be located anywhere in Canada.

Responsibilities:

• Relationship Building: Proven ability to build and maintain relationships based on trust, respect, and integrity. Cultivate partnerships and collaborations with external partners, including Indigenous community leaders, educational institutions, and other relevant organizations.
• Reform Initiatives: Lead and oversee reform programs or projects aimed at improving internal processes, policies, or practices, along with youth engagement strategies. ensuring alignment between Indigenous partners, perspectives, and organizational objectives
• Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively engage with diverse Indigenous communities, stakeholders, and internal teams, and document engagements.
• Recruitment and Retention: Partner with HR and hiring managers to create inclusive recruitment strategies, ensuring diversity in candidate pools and implementing culturally-safe retention strategies for underrepresented groups.
• Negotiation and Conflict Resolution: Strong negotiation skills and the ability to navigate and resolve conflicts diplomatically and effectively.
• Training and Development: Design and implement training programs to enhance volunteer skills, promote leadership development, and ensure the organization’s adherence to best practices.
• Other duties as required.
Competencies Required:

We are committed to a diverse and inclusive range of backgrounds and perspectives that have shaped a candidate’s qualifications and skills. This can include experience, education, or a combination of these – but is certainly not limited by them.

• 5+ years of experience in volunteer management, stakeholder engagement, advocacy, or reform-related roles. At least 3 years of direct management or supervisory role.
• In-depth knowledge and understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and history, alongside sensitivity to cultural differences and protocols.
• Education: High School Diploma
• Considered as an asset: Degree or Certification in Community Health, Social Sciences, Nonprofit Management, Youth Development, or related field – along with relevant experience in Indigenous relations, community development, or a related area. Other relevant certifications from Historically Black Colleges, Tribal Colleges and Universities, or other institutions are welcomed.
• Proven ability to build and maintain relationships based on trust, respect, and integrity.

• Flexibility: Willingness to work non-traditional hours (as needed) to engage with communities and occasionally travel.
