Youth Development Facilitator – Cultural Programming

Boys & Girls Clubs Big Brothers Big Sisters of Edmonton & Area is an organization that believes in the promise of all children. Our team works with community volunteers, partners and other supporters to create safe environments for children to be between school and home and to provide caring mentoring relationships for children and youth. Boys & Girls Clubs Big Brothers Big Sisters is seeking individuals interested in the following position(s):

Position(s) Available: One (1)
Status: Full-Time contract (37.5 hours per week)
Salary Range: $51,922 -$54,570 annually

The key responsibilities of this position will include:
• Providing support and monitoring to youth in care mentoring matches to ensure that children and youth are in safe, constructive, satisfying relationships that are having a positive impact.
• Working to create and foster constructive, strength based and satisfying relationships between youth and volunteers.
• Providing support to youth who have experienced challenges involving marginalization, addictions and circumstances that have required child and family services involvement.
• Offering youth an opportunity to engage in indigenous traditions and experiences as a part of their mentoring.
• Working with youth ages 6 to 24 years to provide positive role modeling and mentorship to achieve outcomes.
• Creating and delivering programming with an Indigenous focus for matches, youth and volunteers to come together to participate and learn..
• Working as a team to communicate the needs of youth who are participating in the program.
• Fulfilling program standards and expectations from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada and the agency to support these matches.
• Delivering extended training sessions to volunteers to provide information and knowledge around supporting youth who have been in care, this would include developing program resources and material that have an Indigenous focus.
• Maintaining up-to-date electronic casework notes, statistics and other required reporting in compliance with relevant standards, policies and processes.
• Building relationships with other service and resource providers to further assist children, youth, families and the volunteers who support them.

Education level: Diploma

Required skills: The successful candidate will have: • A degree or diploma in the areas of child and youth development and/or social work. • A minimum of 5 years combined experience in a role involved with children and youth at risk , programming, case management and partnership development. • The ability to work effectively with children and youth ages 6-24 years and has a solid understanding of the circumstances facing children and youth who are in care. • Prior experience working with indigenous communities, high risk youth, and children and youth services are key components. • An understanding of indigenous practices and awareness of these resources for young people. • Experience working with volunteers and an understanding of volunteer processes. • Knowledge of additional external resources and community programs to support families. • Demonstrated good communication skills (both written and oral) • Ability to exercise good judgement and sound decision making. • Demonstrated creativity and innovation in working with youth. • Ability to work a flexible schedule of evenings and some weekends to accommodate youth. • A valid driver’s license and vehicle. Candidates must be capable of performing independently as well as part of a team environment and have excellent interpersonal skills.
