Temporary Full Time (2 years with the possibility of extension)
NO. OF POSITIONS: One
UNION: Exempt
HOURS OF WORK: 37.5 hours per week
SALARY: $116,030 – $127,946 annually + comprehensive benefits package

The City of New Westminster’s Electrical Department runs the oldest, continuously operating, electrical utility in British Columbia, generating electricity for streetlights as early as 1891. Reporting to the General Manager of the Electrical Utility, the successful applicant will have a strong commitment to safety and energy conservation and will play an important role on the team developing the future of this community-focused 132-Year-old Electric Utility.

As our Senior Project Manager, you will work with others in the execution of our Electrical Distribution Master Plan. You will put your problem solving skills to work along with your passion to build collaborative partnerships to get the job done. Your knowledge of complex project delivery, electrical distribution design, various procurement models, construction, permitting and environmental regulations in the electrical field makes you an incredible asset.

In this role, you will:
• Establish goals, expectations and take corrective action needed to maintain and control project/study scope cost, schedule and quality.
• Control costs and maintain monthly forecast.
• Manage the development of a study/project specific execution and management plans.
• Manage the risk management function along with the change management function and the allocation of contingency.
• Manage the performance of contractors and develop reporting systems and payment measuring systems.
• Inform the General Manager and other key stakeholders of major issues immediately concerning major safety/environment incidents or public/political issues.
• Efficiently manage and ensure contractual conditions are being adhered to.
• Provide support to project team and keep the team informed of pertinent issues.
• Manage studies /project irregularities collectively with project team.
• Control and monitor all RFP and RFQ in coordination with Manager
• Negotiate discrepancies with contractors and strive for efficient conflict resolution.
• Coordinate with Electrical Operations, Engineering Design & Planning staff, along with our customers on interdependent issues related to the projects you are managing.

What it takes:
• You have extensive hands-on knowledge of electric utility and/or electrical distribution infrastructure
• Extensive project management and execution experience delivering on major projects in excess of $5M.
• You have a degree in electrical engineering plus a minimum of 10 years related project execution, controls and contract management experience in a leadership capacity.
• A Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is preferred
• You have strong organizational skills as demonstrated in your experience managing various projects, studies and developing programs
• You have the ability to build and nourish long-lasting relationships.
• You have an influential leadership style and a love for developing others
• You are skilled in the art of interacting with people at all levels of the company as well as external stakeholders
• Exceptional communication skills both verbally and in writing.
• Strong presentation skills.
• Comfortable at managing union and non-unionized recruitment.
• Ability to exercise professional judgement in the handling of confidential information.
• Works effectively on your own or in a team environment.
• Strong computer skills (MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Microsoft Projects).

In this role, you will have the option to participate in a flexible work program, enabling you to work from an approved flex location in British Columbia up to 85 days a year (equivalent to approximately two days a week), subject to business or operational needs.
