Job Description

Trattoria Taverniti located in the heart of downtown Toronto serves authentic homemade Italian dishes with recipes that have been handed down through generations.

Located at 591 College Street, Toronto, Ontario M6G 1B2 Trattoria Taverniti is seeking to hire an experienced Line Cook for permanent full-time employment. The ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience in preparing Italian dishes specializing in traditional cuisine from the Southern Italian Region of Calabria.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills / qualifications:
• Secondary School Diploma.
• Must have a minimum of 1 year of experience as a cook specializing in authentic Italian Cuisine from the Region of Calabria.
• Must have knowledge of a variety of authentic Calabrese recipes.
• Must have excellent culinary skills and knowledge of food production techniques.
• Ability to determine size of food portions and estimate food requirements.
• Must have thorough knowledge of food, methods and equipment used to prepare food.
• Must have considerable knowledge of health hazards in food preparation and take precautionary measures.
• Must have great time and stress management skills and have the ability to work in a fast paced, high-pressure environment.
• Must be hardworking, highly motivated, organized, and punctual.
• Must work with minimal supervision.

Job Duties
• Must oversee the entire kitchen operations.
• Responsible for daily preparation of food.
• Prepare food orders and ensure that special requests are addressed accordingly (eg. food allergies or intolerances).
• Provide different suggestions for our menus.
• Responsible for examining food preparation and serving areas to ensure observance of safe, sanitary food-handling practices.
• Must keep food and supply inventory and equipment and order fresh food products and required supplies.
• Responsible for checking quantity and quality of food stock received and notifying suppliers of deficiencies.
• Responsible for set-up, regular maintenance and cleaning of machinery and equipment.
• Cleaning of the kitchen, stockroom and refrigerators
• Must have the ability to delegate tasks to other kitchen staff to run the kitchen effectively
• Responsible for instructing and training kitchen staff (assistants and helpers).
• Preparation of various Italian pastries and desserts
• Preparing food for all catering events

Compensation
• $23.00 hourly for 40 hours per week (applicable overtime pay will apply after 44 hours of work per week)
• 10 days of paid vacation
