JOB DESCRIPTION
Position: Early Childhood Assistant
Compensation: CAD20/hr
Work Hours: 30 hours per week
Location: 160-7951 Alderbridge Way, Richmond. BC V6X 2A4

THE ROLE
We are looking for an Early Childhood Assistant who will provide quality, inclusive preschool services by participating in the planning and implementation of the curriculum under the guidance of the lead early childhood education teacher. The Early Childhood Assistant reports to and is supervised by the lead ECE teacher.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Assist with establishing and maintaining an environment for children which is clean, safe, stimulating, and appropriate for each child’s developmental level and communication needs.
•Assume a share of the housekeeping responsibilities, including cleaning toys and equipment and laundering dishcloths and other articles of fabric
•Organize space, equipment, and materials before activities
•Follow the licensing requirements for maintaining health records, and update self-daily as to children’s allergies, special conditions, or other pertinent information
•Monitor the classroom for hazards and take preventative action as required
•Provide positive guidance such as active attending, redirection, problem solving, setting appropriate limits and model language & communication strategies
•Carry out a daily schedule that incorporates child-directed activity, care routines and transitions times
•Set up daily routines to take advantage of embedded learning opportunities by promoting children’s understanding of their own and other cultures and value system and providing daily opportunities for each child to choose to be alone.
•Organize physical and social environment to extend and expand child-directed play experiences and observe how children use the materials and interact with each other and adults therefore help children to recognize individual differences.
•Participate in short- and long-term planning and the annual program review to seek out opportunities to recognize and celebrate new developmental achievements
•Attend to children’s physical needs for diapering, toileting, eating and sleeping
•Communicate parent questions, concerns to the lead early childhood educator, and recognize and respect family’s child rearing practice
•Assist in observations and documentation of individual children’s progress through anecdotal notes, developmental checklists and assessments that are shared with families

QUALIFICATIONS:
•Completion of secondary school is required.
•1-2 years experience in childcare is required.
•Completion of an early childhood education assistant certificate program or post-secondary courses in early childhood education
•Quick learner and ability to be assertive
•Ability to follow direction and work independently as required
•Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask
•Excellent communication skills is an asset
