Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled, detail-oriented Automotive Body Painter to join our maintenance team. The successful candidate will prepare, refinish, and restore the painted surfaces of commercial vehicles, heavy equipment, trailers, and automotive components to meet manufacturer and company quality standards. The ideal candidate has strong technical skills, excellent attention to detail, and experience with modern automotive refinishing systems.

Responsibilities

As an Automotive Body Painter, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Prepare vehicle and equipment body surfaces by filing, grinding, sanding, feathering, filling, and cleaning surfaces using professional hand and power tools prior to refinishing.
Mask and tape vehicle body panels, glass, trim, chrome, lights, and electrical components to protect surrounding surfaces during the painting process.
Mix, blend, and match paint according to manufacturer colour codes, formulas, and specifications using manual or computerized colour-matching systems.
Apply industrial-grade primers, sealers, base coats, clear coats, and specialty finishes using professional spray guns and refinishing equipment.
Perform blending, polishing, and buffing techniques to achieve seamless colour transitions and premium-quality finishes.
Inspect refinished vehicles and equipment components for colour accuracy, gloss, texture, runs, sags, overspray, orange peel, and other imperfections, making corrections as required to meet factory-quality standards.
Clean, disassemble, inspect, and maintain paint spray booths, ventilation systems, spray guns, paint mixing equipment, and other refinishing tools to ensure safe and efficient operation.
Follow all workplace health and safety procedures, including the proper use of respirators, personal protective equipment (PPE), and hazardous material handling practices.
Work collaboratively with mechanics, body repair technicians, and maintenance personnel to complete repairs efficiently.
Experience & Qualifications

Completion of secondary school or equivalent vocational training
Minimum 1 year of hands-on experience in automotive, commercial vehicle, or heavy equipment painting and refinishing.
Experience preparing surfaces and applying automotive coatings using spray equipment.
Knowledge of paint mixing, colour matching, and refinishing techniques.
Ability to work independently while maintaining high-quality workmanship.
Willingness to register as an Apprentice or Trade Qualifier with Alberta Skilled Trades (if not already certified).
Physical Requirements

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Ability to stand for extended periods.
Comfortable working inside enclosed commercial spray booths.
Ability to wear positive-pressure respirators and other required personal protective equipment for extended periods.
Ability to perform repetitive manual tasks with precision and attention to detail.
