Job Description

Oil and Petroleum Inspectors visit client facilities, including barges and ships, shore tanks, railcars, and tank trucks for quantity surveys of a variety of commodities including petroleum and petrochemicals inspection and collect samples for laboratory analysis. • Receives orders, obtains information, and gathers paperwork from Operations Supervisor(s) on movements.
• Ensures that all equipment is in good operating condition, calibration verification, correct and clean. This includes safety and monitoring equipment appropriate to the job.
• Reports to job-site punctually and observes all Bureau Veritas applicable federal and province regulations and standards, Terminal, Refinery, and/or vessel requirements; including quality, safety and environmental standards.
• Support the ISO certificate(s) and assist in the corrective/preventive action process.
• Read, understand and adhere to the company Business Management System; including Quality, Safety, and Environmental policies and procedures.
• Attend “Key Meetings” with external personnel ashore and/or abroad. Represents Bureau Veritas by appearance and conduct. Behaves ethically at all times.
• Communicates any problems, discrepancies, or other noteworthy incidents to the Operations Supervisor and/or Dispatcher without delay.
• Obtains samples, gauges shore tanks, vessel(s), barge(s), railcar(s), and/or tank truck(s) as specified per job order.
• Labels sample containers with full and correct identifying data, including location of sample, material, type of sample, safety information, time collected, etc.
• Promptly and accurately calculates quantities and completes all required paperwork and distributes copies appropriately.
• Promptly and safely delivers samples to a Bureau Veritas laboratory for analysis or turn in for retain, or client facilities for analysis or retain.
• Reviews any discrepancies with Operations Supervisor, signs and returns job order form.
• Maintains a 24-hour on-call status.
• Supports and participates in Bureau Veritas Business Management System (BMS).
• Attends company meetings as required.
• Keep company provided vehicle well maintained.

• Internal: Laboratory department, Inspectors, supervisors and managers.
• External: Client facilities
Working Conditions: physical work environment, physical and mental effort, visual/listening attention and travel

• Performs work in high, precarious place, outdoors (all year round) and near flammable material.
• Regular exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold and extreme heat; possibility of working in enclosed spaces.
• Regular lifting/climbing and/or moving with up to 50lbs; occasional lifting of up to 100lbs (with assistance); may involve long periods of standing
• Regular walking, use of hands to handle or feel objects, tools and controls
• Regular reaching with arms, climbing and balancing
• Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, listen, taste and smell.
• Frequently required to climb and descend stairways, ladders, and gangways.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
• Requires flexible working hours, overtime and shift work

Required languages: English

Education level: High School Diploma

Required skills: • 3-5 years’ minimum experience in an Inspector /Marine Petroleum Inspector role • Knowledge of HS&E procedures associated with governmental regulations. • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Additional skills / Assets: • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. • Ability to add, subtracts, multiply, and divides in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. • Ability to deal with problems involving variables in standardized situations. • Valid driver’s license required. • Access to a well maintained vehicle to travel to job locations. • Valid class 5 driver’s license
