Position Title: Floor Covering Installer (NOC 73113)

We are looking for an experienced Floor Covering Installer for our growing team! Job involves working on shifts and flexibility to work evenings and weekends.
Working Conditions: Fast-paced environment, tight deadlines, combination of sitting, standing, walking, standing for extended periods, dusty and outdoors
Duties and Responsibilities:
Inspect job sites, drawings, and work areas to verify site readiness, confirm layout accuracy, and ensure flooring installations align with project specifications, schedules, and quality standards established by Union General Contracting Inc.
• Accurately measure, mark, cut, and prepare surfaces to be covered, including the installation and fastening of underlayment and underpadding to ensure proper support, durability, and finish performance.
• Install carpet systems by measuring, cutting, seaming, stretching, and securing materials using approved tools and methods such as hand or machine stitchers, seaming irons, bonding tape, knee kickers, power stretchers, staple guns, and adhesives to achieve a precise, professional result.
• Measure, cut, and install resilient flooring materials using rollers, adhesives, and hand tools, ensuring smooth application, proper adhesion, and compliance with manufacturer and project requirements.
• Install hardwood flooring systems, including strip, block, and plank flooring, using appropriate fastening methods such as glue, nails, or staples, while maintaining alignment, expansion allowances, and finish quality.
• Inspect completed flooring installations to verify workmanship, identify deficiencies, and carry out repairs or replacements of damaged or worn floor coverings to maintain project quality standards.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment by performing continuous housekeeping, including removal of debris, excess materials, packaging, and waste to prevent hazards and support efficient workflow.
• Store, handle, and secure tools, equipment, and materials properly during and at the end of each shift to protect company assets and maintain site organization.
• Consistently follow Union General Contracting Inc.’s safety policies, site-specific procedures, and applicable occupational health and safety regulations.
• Wear and maintain required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times, including safety footwear, high-visibility apparel, eye protection, gloves, hearing protection, and head protection where required.
• Safely operate all tools and equipment, ensuring guards and safety devices are in place, and immediately report unsafe conditions, incidents, or damaged equipment to supervision.
• Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and required training, and support the company’s commitment to a safe, professional, and high-quality construction environment.
• Assist with estimating material quantities, labour requirements, and installation timelines as required to support accurate project planning and execution.
Qualifications and Experience:
• 3 – 4 years of relevant experience in construction/residential industry
• WHMIS certification is an asset
Education
Completion of a two- to four-year apprenticeship program or over three years of work experience in the trade and some high school, college or industry courses is an asset
Vacancies: 1 Position
Wages: $37.00 per hour; 30-hour work week; overtime rate of $55.50 per hour after 44 hours per week
Benefits: 10 days annual vacation, health and dental
