Located at 4804 Medway River Road in Greenfield, Queens County, Nova Scotia, Freeman Lumber is a state-of-the-art sawmill manufacturing facility. Freeman Lumber is in one of the oldest family-run sawmill businesses in North America. The Freeman family has operated mills in Greenfield, Nova Scotia since 1832. The family-owned business has continuously invested in the latest technologies to remain on the cutting edge.
We are currently looking for multiple permanent, full-time Sawmill/Production General Labourer to join our Freeman Lumber Production Team. This position is an entry level position in the mill. This role reports directly to the Production Supervisor and may be responsible for:
• Cleaning production work areas in Sawmill that cannot be cleaned during regular production times.
• Cleaning up wood, saw dust and broken wood in and around machinery
• Sorting, piling, and transporting wood products
• Pulling and piling heavy lumber in both an internal/external environment
• Performing fire inspection/watch around hot work areas at set intervals
• Identifying and resolving any fire safety hazards, and notifying management of any significant action required
• Maintaining clean and safe work area, collecting and disposing of debris in assigned areas
• Showing a willingness and flexibility to perform various job assignments that may change daily
• Stacking stickers into a machine
• Assisting other production workers as required
• Working in a safe manner ensuring that all safety procedures and applicable codes are followed
Skills/Abilities:
• Ensure compliance of safe work practices and health and safety policies and procedures
• Work with minimal supervision
• Ability to multi-task while working under pressure
• Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
• Must be physically capable of bending, reaching, lifting and able to work in extreme environments (hot, cold, rain, snow)
• Availability to work shiftwork (day/evening shifts), weekends, holidays, and overtime hours

Qualifications
• Six (6) months experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment is preferred
• Completion of secondary education is required
• Must be able to communicate in English
• Must possess a valid driver’s license
• Positive attitude towards safety
• Must be authorized to work in Canada
• Criminal record check is required
• Must have a clean drug test
• Must be able to safely lift up to 50lbs and stand for long periods of time
Compensation: $22.25 – $23.84 per hour
